Hedging
Melbourne Hedging Done Right
From a single tidy up to a standing seasonal round, every hedge gets the same string line precision, not just a rough trim over the top.

Shapes we cut
Whatever shape your hedge is meant to be
Not every hedge should look the same. We shape to what the plant and the garden actually call for.

Formal
Box, murraya or photinia cut to hard, geometric lines. Flat tops, square corners, no wander along the length.

Rounded
A softer, more natural finish for cottage gardens and informal borders, still even, just not razor edged.

Screening
Tall hedges along a fence or boundary, kept dense and full from the ground up, not just trimmed at the top.
What's included
Every hedge, cut the same way
Cut level and straight
String lined or eyeballed dead level, checked from both ends, not just trimmed shorter.
Both sides and the top
Full shape maintained all the way around, not just the side facing the street.
Clippings cleared
Off the lawn and garden bed so they do not yellow the grass or smother what is underneath.
Overgrown hedges brought back gradually
A hard renovation cut is timed and staged so the hedge recovers, not shocked into bare patches.
Worth knowing
What if a hedge just grows out?
A hedge left alone loses its line fairly quickly and starts looking more like a row of shrubs than a hedge. Bringing it back into shape later just takes a harder cut than it would have otherwise. Once the new growth hardens off, getting the shape back can mean cutting well past the last trim line, leaving bare wood exposed until it fills back in.

The detail
It's the corners and the top line that give it away
A hedge either reads as sharp or it does not, and that comes down to the two spots most trims skip.

FAQ
Questions we actually get asked
Usually yes, with a hard renovation cut timed to late winter or early spring so it has the whole growing season to recover. Very neglected hedges sometimes need this done gradually over two seasons.
Two to three times a year for most hedges, spring and autumn as a minimum.
Yes, cleared from the lawn and garden bed before we leave.
We will tell you honestly whether a gap will fill back in with the right cut and feed, or whether it needs replacing, rather than just trimming around it.
Yes, on request. Ongoing shaping into a specific form like a ball or cone works best as a regular booking rather than a one-off.
